Engagement photography
This was the first engagement shoot of the autumn, in fantastic warm sunshine.
I know some photographer’s like to take an engagement or pre-wedding shoot at the wedding venue and almost use it as a practice run for the wedding itself, I prefer to see it as a getting to know you session and will almost always take them at a couple’s home or a favourite place. It should be fun and most of all you shouldn’t have that ‘deja vu’ feeling on your wedding day. Most of these picture’s were taken in the garden of Holly and Bradley’s gorgeous Oxfordshire cottage, or on a short walk down the lane near their house. The late summer light through the trees was just about perfect and there was plenty of laughing!
I first met Holly and Bradley at his sister’s wedding, which I photographed at Stowe a few years ago. They have a winter wedding planned, in London, early next year, which I’m really looking forward to.

What I remember most about katie and Matthew’s wedding is all the personal touches. The groom’s mini was the inspiration for the table names, the bride’s love of penguins made it onto the cake. They got married at a golf centre, so naturally they spent the time waiting for evening guests on the driving range, and had spent some time before the wedding tracking down a purple golf club so that it co-ordinated with the colour theme!
To take full advantage of the vintage Rolls Royce that they had booked we did a location shoot to a nearby lake – much to the surprise of the local fisherman. And of course I shouldn’t forget to mention Katie and Matt’s postman, who apparently made a special delivery on the morning of the wedding with the groom’s missing cravat (because he thought it might be needed!).

Family, Generations, Portrait photography
One of the great things about a family portrait session is that it is often an occasion when all the generations of your family get together. It maybe a special celebration, like a recent shoot I did at a Ruby wedding anniversary, that brings everyone together and the pictures are a result, or, as in the case, the shoot was an excuse to get four generations together. The emphasis was on the female members of the family, Great Grandma, her daughter, her three granddaughters and three great granddaughters, so Grandad was a little out numbered!

Albums, Wedding photography
One of the things I promised myself, when I first started doing wedding photography, was that I would try my best to make sure clients didn’t have to wait months and months to get their wedding albums. I’m still taken aback when I meet someone who says “I got married two years ago and I still don’t have my album!”. Now I realise that there maybe a particular reason behind some of these stories, but if I can possibly help it that reason will not be me! And so it it is that the summer is not only filled with new weddings to photograph but with the arrival of the courier bearing albums created from weddings earlier in the year.
This is Stephanie and James’ album from their wedding at Woburn Sculpture Gallery earlier this year. A sumptuous setting they chose an equally sumptuous suede leather cover. This is one of my favourites because it both looks and feels so luxurious. I’m a great believer in having an album that feels as good as it looks!

Emma and Mark got married earlier this year at Wavendon Church near Milton Keynes. When I arrived at their house in the morning Emma and her bridesmaids were starting their hair and make-up. Mark had hidden a present for Emma, and a text from him started a mini treasure hunt, whilst still in PJs and rollers!
Building work at the church had caused a minor concern, but fortunately we were able to work around it and the reception was held at Horwood House, where there is no shortage photo opportunity. It’s one of the reasons I like this venue because there is enough variety to ensure that every couples’ wedding photographs are not the same as the couple before and I’m always finding new places to take photographs including Emma’s special request for a picture of her and her bridesmaids ‘jumping’.
This has been one of the most colourful weddings I’ve photographed so far this year, with the bridesmaid wearing a gorgeous vibrant pink, perfectly matched by the florist (Ginger Lilly Flowers). I just loved that shot of vibrant colour.
When I left in the evening the dancing was in full swing.

I had great fun photographing some amazing jewellery pieces at a fashion show for BySarahJane recently. The setting was afternoon tea at Browns and I just loved setting Sarah Jane’s statement pieces against the civilised setting of the afternoon tea. During the fashion show itself Sarah Jane styled both male and female models which worked really well as way of showing off some of her more dramatic semi-precious and bead creations.

Originally a William and Mary House with grounds by Capability Brown Stoke Place is a new venue for me, but gorgeous, and the perfect setting for Louise and Sumit’s wedding. Unfortunately the windy weather meant that it was a bit of a challenge to get out and about in the grounds during the afternoon but indoors there was the beautiful flowers (by Woodlands Flowers nr Milton Keynes) and there was plenty of scope for great pictures.
Louise got ready at the venue with her mother and bridesmaids. The ceremony was a civil one for which she wore a beautiful figure hugging silk dress embellished with crystals. I particularly remember the luxurious impact of the flowers in the ceremony room. In the evening she and Sumit, together with many of the wedding party changed into Indian clothes, so their evening reception was alive with colour and fuelled by Indian cuisine. I was sorry when it was my time to leave.

I have been designing albums this week, mostly, but not only for weddings. One of them was for Sarah and Alan who got married last month at Horwood House.
Once again we’re talking about glorious, unseasonal weather, which meant being able to take advantage of the great gardens for their photographs. If you’re into gardening there is a Percy Thrower connection (or so we were told at the start of the ceremony!)
Gardens notwithstanding this wedding was a joy to photograph because everyone really seemed to be having a good time. Sarah and Alan looked blissfully happy and Sarah’s Mum didn’t stop smiling all day!

Meet the edible Isabelle, the happiest model you’d ever want to photograph.
I was lucky enough to photograph Isabelle’s parents’ wedding a couple of years ago and so when they got in touch to ask if I’d photograph Isabelle, I jumped at the chance. We took advantage of the warm spring sunshine to go for a walk around Stockgrove Park, pausing every now and then to take pictures. Apart from the odd curious look at the mad woman with the big camera pointed her way, I think Isabelle smiled, practically, the whole time. What a joy!
